One of the highlights for me of the Oscars is the acceptance speech from Lupita Nyong’o who won the Best Supporting Actress for her role as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave.

You can listen to her entire speech by viewing the embedded video. But my favorite line was the last sentence of her speech. She stated “When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”

I am so glad that she uttered those words to the entire world. When she said those words I felt a release in the Universe of dreams that have been deferred for both young and old. She started acting late in her life and what if she didn’t believe her dreams were valid….she wouldn’t have attended Yale School of Drama and may have never tried out for the role that ultimately graced her with an Oscar.

So, now that you know your dreams are valid what are you going to do about it? And why don’t you take it a step further and validate another persons dream. Encourage someone’s dream and see how they light up.
