Class Descriptions

Handcrafted Cold Process Soapmaking
Cold process soapmaking involves creating custom soaps from scratch.  This predominately demonstration class will show you step by step how to make a batch of cold process soap.  During the class you will learn a brief history of soap, safety tips and practicies, how to properly handle sodium hydroxide, the basic chemical process of soap, how to customize your soap batch with color, scents and additives, options for molds and what to do with your soap after it saponifies (chemically changes into soap).

You will take home two batches of soap; approximately 1.5 pounds total.  This is a basic demonstration class.  This class is a prerequisite to advanced cold process soapmaking where you will make your own 2 pound batch of soap with guidance from your teacher.  The advanced class will cover other techniques such as swirling.

Beginner Glycerin Melt and Pour Soapmaking
This hands-on class is a great start to the world of soapmaking.  Roll up your sleeves and begin making cute, artistic and novelty soap with natural melt and pour soap base.  You will learn how to make at least 4 different soaps to take home or give away as gifts.  Unleash your creativity by customizing your soaps with color, fragrance and other additives such as herbs.

The techniques you will learn include mosaic soap bar (a stain glass effect), embed soap bar (choose between a toy for the kids or a flower petal for adults to enjoy), herbal soap bar (add herbs to your soap to create textured soaps) and layered soap bar (layer two or more colors to create a layered effect).
