Last weekend I hosted the first #IndieMeetup for Northern NJ Indies in my new Nyah Studio. There were eight of us in total who came out on an icy Sunday to spend a few hours setting intentions for their New Year through the creation of our own personal vision boards.
I no longer set New Years Resolutions but use tools such as Lucky Break Consulting’s Mandala to help me set intentions for how I want to feel when 2014 is complete. I also recently purchased a book entitled “2014 Create Your Amazing Year” Life and Biz Edition Workbook by Leonie Dawson. This book is great in helping you work out the things you want and you compile it all in one place so you have a place to go back and reference later in the year. Plus it is fun and colorful so you really don’t feel like your are doing work.
Now don’t think we sat there in complete silence as we contemplated what we wanted to manifest in our lives for 2014. We ate awesome food and beverages that everyone chipped in and brought with them, we listened to Soca music to keep the mood alive and upbeat and we looked through a bunch of magazines searching for words and images that represented the things we wanted drawn to us this year. There was however one rule and that was we couldn’t use anything that was a “should”. Do you know how hard that was? At least for me it was because I knew I should be eating better, exercising and losing weight. However, my fellow creatives wouldn’t allow me to use any of the words or images. Instead I chose words like “It’s Time”, “Just Done It”, “Effortless”, “See More Volume”, “Harmony” and “Unstress”.
This board was different from my normal vision boards being that there were no shoulds included. Even the images were of people smiling, having fun or simply relaxed. They all reflect the way I want to feel in 2014 – FABULOUS! One of the participants even mentioned to me that I had nothing related to soap on my vision board. Wow! How did that happen?
Mark your calendars for the next North Jersey #IndieMeetup set for March 2, 2014 at 2pm. It is guaranteed to be just as great as the last one.
On a side note: One of the participants lost 40 pounds in 2 months using the Paleo way of eating and recommended this great book which I have since ordered called Practical Paleo. Which embraces eating no refined foods such as wheat and sugar products. I’m going to give this a try. What do I have to loose except 40 pounds I hope!! Who will join me?
