Delores Harris

As a child, Delores Harris watched her grandma Daisy make soap. Little did she know that years later she would be making her own soap. Mrs. Harris started her soapmaking ventures in 1997 after realizing that commercial soaps made her skin dry and itchy. She started selling her soaps to family and friends a year later when there was no other place in her home to store her fragrant treasures. In 2003 she named her soapmaking business Daisy May Natural Soap in honor of her grandmother.

Delores has taken soapmaking classes with Karen Klein at The Learning Annex, Ursula Basch from Herbal Bear and attended numerous lectures, classes and workshops at The Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild’s yearly Conferences. She has certificates in Basic Soapmaking and Advanced Soapmaking with The Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild. She has also served on the Board of Directors with The Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild. She is a member of several online soapmaking groups including CNY Soapmakers, Indie Soapers, Latherings and Soap & Candle Forum.

She uses various soapmaking techniques including cold process, hot process, and liquid soapmaking. She is constantly experimenting with different materials in her soap making ventures, including milk based products, herbs, wine, beer, vegetables, fruits and fruit juices. Her next goal is to master the art of creamed soapmaking.

She has taught soapmaking at The Learning Annex. She now teaches private soapmaking classes by appointment and monthly through her Meetup.Com group Brooklyn Cp Soapmakers. She has appeared on Brooklyn Cable Access TV (BCAT) making soap for the Cooking & More with Esther Show. Her soap booth was used as part of the farmers market scene in the Jennifer Lopez movie The BackUp Plan and she has been featured in an article in Our Times Press, NYOnline Kids and in Newsday Online Cheap Thrills as DIYer of the week.

In her spare time, if there is any left, she gardens, keeps a beehive, travels and hangs out on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn as DaisySoapGirl.
