Inside Scoop: Buy Local

My New BFF John!

We hear it all the time buy local. We hear this especially when it comes to fruits and veggies and now we are hearing it more to support small business and buy local.  This rings true for the soap maker entrepreneur. Try and find local places to buy your supplies from if they help your bottom line.

I recently visited a local box supply company that was literally maybe 10 miles from my home.  I went because I wanted to see the boxes before I placed an order and it wasn’t what I wanted.  Well, the gentlemen that owns the box company, Sunshine Container, was a gem.  He had good ‘ole fashioned customer service.  He let me into his office and play with all his display boxes until I found something that might work.  We decided on a box style to try and see how well it works for my soap product.  He even told me to come back and we will set aside more time to go over my product line and see how we can package them well and in style. Now how is that for local.

He was a big business but never made my small business feel like he didn’t want to do business with me.  I was instantly in love.  In love with the fact that he genuinely was interested in something as “simple” as packaging and making sure I was happy with what he had and if not how he could customize it for me.

Another cool thing they use 32% recycled materials to manufacture their kraft boxes.  We know how important it is to watch are carbon footprint! Oh and no glue either to keep the boxes together! And can I say they are not flimsy boxes. Nice and sturdy!

Boxes Glorious Boxes!

Before leaving he gave me a mini tour of the warehouse and manufacturing.  They make all the boxes themselves. How cool is that.  He even showed how they die cut the boxes and showed the inventory of boxes in stock.

So before going abroad or to the other coast look in your own backyard.  You never know who you might find and can buy locally from (which has the added perk of saving moola on shipping).
