#HandmadeChat: Content Ideas for Your Newsletter and Blog

by La Shonda on July 13, 2012

Blogging and sending an email newsletter are great tools for today’s small business entrepreneur to utilize in building their business.  It can be challenging to find the time to fit these tools into your work schedule but if you don’t your business can be behind in the times and you don’t want to be left behind.

This weeks #HandmadeChat was on Content Ideas for Your Newsletter and Blog and I had the pleasure to facilitate. I never saw an hour go by so fast. Here are a few of the questions and answers that passed through the hour.  Be sure to read the whole transcript for all the responses.

Q1 IS IT IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO PUBLISH BLOG POSTS AND NEWSLETTERS REGULARLY? WHY OR WHY NOT?

A1 Donna DeRosa shared: Yes, for SEO purposes. The more the publish, the higher your ranking with google, etc.

Q2 HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE YOUR PUBLICATION IDEAS? DO YOU HAVE AN EDITORIAL CALENDAR? SHOULD YOU?

A2 Mary Humphrey shared: I chart out topics. I try to calendar them by month, by topic, etc…

Q5 DO YOU SHARE PERSONAL LIFE EVENTS IN YOUR NEWSLETTER OR BLOG? HOW DO YOU DRAW THE “PERSONAL LIFE” LINE?

A5 Melissa Rivera shared: I use personal if relevant to my business. I don’t share everything because private is private.

If you are a 21st century entrepreneur you have to take hold of blogging and writing content for a newsletter.  It takes time and you have to make the time for it. Don’t wait to get started. Get started now ….at your own pace.

For the full conversation and transcripts you can download them here. Enjoy reading and don’t forget to join us for the next #HandmadeChat on Thursday, 8pm EST, where Alyssa Middleton will co-host and chat it up about “Getting Things Done With Young Children Around”.

I just read a statistic that people who public regular blog content enjoy 55% more visitors to their websites. I also hear, “I don’t have time,” or “I can’t think of anything to say.” That makes me sad because what it translates into is, “I don’t have time to use the Internet to market my business, but I still want the Internet to deliver sales for me.” Hope lots of people see this chat and get the help and inspiration they need.

You mean that online sales doesn’t work by osmosis??? I too hope that people will see these chats. They must get the show on the road. Since I have been blogging and sending out a regular newsletter I see a difference in sales and traffic to my website/blog. IT’s time to get their heads out of the sand…and market your business on the internet!
